About VASTA

The Veterinary Anaesthesia School for Veterinarians, Technicians and Nurses was founded in 2007 by Veterinary Anaesthesia Services International (VAS) in Switzerland. Due to its extraordinary success, it is now expanding to Singapore. The aim of the school is provision of a sound and well founded education in Anaesthesia to Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians and Nurses.

VASTA delivers a structured Continuing Education within a larger clinical context and is well inserted in the international network of Anaesthesia experts within ECVAA/ACVAA/AVA/AVTA. The growing VASTA family consists of VATs all over and provides an exchange platform between trained Anaesthetists and European and American Specialists in Anaesthesia and Analgesia.

Concept

VASTA is an internationally recognised intensive course in Veterinary Anaesthesia structured in 6 weekend modules.

Contents of the modules comprises:

  • Physiology and Pathophysiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Anaesthetic Techniques
  • Pain Management
  • Equipmentology and Monitoring
  • Clinical Anaesthesia

Goals

The main focus of the course lies in the practical application of anaesthesia knowledge. We offer expertise and knowledge to personnel in veterinary practices and other institutions to help make anaesthesia and analgesia safer and better for animals in our care. The course contributes to improve professional handling and care during the surgical intervention and the perioperative period. The responsibility stays with the veterinary surgeon.

Target Group

Veterinarians, Nurses and Technicians in Veterinary Practices, Clinics and Research groups.

The maximum number of registrants is 24, and the minimum is 20.

Modules

The 6 modules consist of theoretical and practical training procured in subject blocks.

Each module starts Friday after lunchtime and continues until Sunday afternoon. The whole course is offered within one year. For missed modules, individual arrangements can be made in the following year (provided that the course will take place).

VASTA offers a complete course documentation to registrants plus additional information for each module.

Registrants have the possibility to engage in exchange with the whole global VAT-network and the instructors directly in between the modules and after the course.

For each module, there is a homework package provided to facilitate revision of topics of each module. The successful completion is mandatory for admission to the final examination.

All information and all module dates are constantly updated on www.vas-int.com

Faculty and Staff

The teachers are internationally recognized Experts in Veterinary Anaesthesia, mostly Diplomates of the European or American College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA/ACVAA) including Dr. Annatasha Bartel and Dr. Peter Kronen, founder of VASTA.

Once all 6 modules and respective homework have been completed, the courses can be concluded with an examination.
