Official Statement Regarding Mental Health

Recently, Channel News Asia published a coverage about mental health issues affecting the local veterinary industry. It was the first time this important issue was brought to the general public.

In 2020, James Cook University did a survey study on mental health issues affecting the local veterinary industry. The study was the first of its kind in Asia.

The study noted that in Singapore, veterinary professionals, in general, had between 4 – 9 times higher prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms compared to human healthcare professionals.

Mental well-being among local veterinarians is an important issue and slowly gaining awareness in recent years. The organisation hopes to collaborate with local authorities and veterinarians in the near future to create more formal programs to support our veterinarians.
