Hiring Veterinary Nurse – SPCA Community Animal Clinic

Take a deep dive into shelter medicine at the only community veterinary clinic in Singapore.

SPCA Community Animal Clinic is hiring a veterinary nurse to join the team. While prior experience is preferred, no experience is required because:

Skills can be taught, but not good character.

For the passionate and willing, we will provide on-the-job training.

We are a young and close-knit group of misfits who do our best every day for the community animals of Singapore.

Our clinic was upgraded in 2018 to include the following:

  • IDEXX haematology and biochemistry machines
  • IM3 Dental machine
  • Digital radiography
  • Anaesthesia monitoring equipment including capnography, ECG, SPO2, blood pressure monitoring

We serve four major groups in Singapore, in order of priority:

  • Our resident SPCA animals waiting to be adopted. There’s ~200 of them
  • Stray animals which would otherwise be forgotten
  • Animals under the care of community caregivers or AWGs
  • Pets of low-income families

No lies, we are a fast-paced clinic with a demanding workload:

  • We do 6 to 20 surgeries a day, depending on the caseload
  • There’s ~20 patients in our hospital wards. There’s a LOT of food bowls to wash.

But we share the workload within the team and also have the assistance of our beloved volunteers.

Once in a while, we do have some pretty cool in-house surgeries like:

  • Femoral Head Ostectomy
  • Perineal Urethrostomy
  • Total Ear Canal Ablation with Lateral Bulla Osteotomy
  • Amputations

It is a roller coaster ride working at SPCA. Some days, we feel like the world is against us. But some days, we see our patients recover from dire conditions and it reminds us why veterinary medicine is our passion.

This is for sure not for the faint-hearted but you may just find the work here as fruitful and rewarding as I do.

If you are interested, please send your resume to my clinic manager at clinicadmin@spca.org.sg. And I hope to see you soon!

Yours Sincerely,
Dr Haoting Chow, DVM
